Located in La Porte City, this large through girder bridge once had a truss span as well.
Built in 1902, the bridge originally consisted of a through girder and a riveted through truss of unknown design. However, the truss was frail and was replaced in approximately 1980, after the Rock Island fell to bankruptcy.
The truss was replaced by a series of beam spans, set onto steel pile substructures. The remainder is set onto stone abutments.
Overall, the bridge appears to be in good condition.
The author has ranked this bridge as being locally significant, due to the common design.
